Has anyone ever wondered why it takes sooo long to generate a merit list after CSAT??? M sure each one of us has... Cursing UPSC each moment... What are these guys up to?? After all we know that our papers will be checked by a computer... Assuming 5 lakh candidates , so five lakh papers... Assume the maximum time taken to reach correction centre after the exam is 10 days... Computer checks say at 0.01 secs per question... 180 questions, so 1.8 seconds ... For 5 lakh papers it is 250 hours.. that is approximately , 11 days... Giving a little tolerance , assume it to be 15 days... Now these results need to be compiled at a central place. 5 more days.. Now the interesting part. Deciding on the cutoffs... The entire data is analysed and a certain percentage of students is selected which gives a cutoff. Each copy now needs to be marked pass or fail against the corresponding roll number. Hardly 5 days. The next part is uploading... 2 days... Adding the above we get a grand total of 37 days... Giving a little tolerance we assume 40 days... UPSC takes more than 60!! Think about it... Either the computers are slow or something else is cooking up there in the Raisina hills.....

The Civil Services...
Hey guys
Everyone is so anxiously waiting for the CSAT 2013 results... Its Friday evening, August 2 and still no signs of UPSC letting the cat out of the Raisina hills onto the worldwideweb!
Everyone is soo anxiously waiting to look at their roll numbers being displayed on the merit list...
It just doesn't let u study... U keep hovering over WWW.upsc.gov.in... Looking at each update... U sit down to study... Thoughts come pouring in... I have 240 ... Will I get through?? Is there going to be a sectional cutoff.. Blah blah blah... U just can't concentrate... I bet all of us must have been clicking the upsc site more often than any other site over the past few days...
Everyone says its best not to waste time.. But believe me, for the novice it ain't easy... A child must play with fire and experience the burns before he starts dreading it...
This upsc consumes the very prime of most of our lives.... 24 to 28... We are struggling and struggling... Especially the engineering creed... We guys just cannot sit idle or stagnate
At one place... Its not in our blood... We keep flying from one flower to another... Sucking the juice for the motherbee ... Who doesn't even care!!!
We are a confused lot.... After B.tech we have a multitude of directions.... Each arrow looks more tempting than the other... We choose to tread a path we think would bring us satisfaction... Oops does that word even exist for us.. Unsatisfied souls.... We get a job... Do well for an year or two.. Suddenly we think of going for an MS abroad... The next moment we are breathing the refreshing aroma of EPFL at Switzerland... 2 more years... Shouldnt I go for a PhD? No
Wait! MBA from Harvard... I should write GMAT... An year long stint again... In the college that boasts of alumni like Zuckerberg... We feel heavenly... A nice job , a nice car... Suddenly india is calling... I haven't been to my native town in years... Let's go and crack Civil services... That's where it all begins and perhaps ends....
